We are excited to host historian James Longhurst, author of “Bike Battles: A History of Sharing the American Road,” for an evening presentation at Imagine Nation Brewing to explore why the history of bicycling matters in our 21st-century bike boom.
James will discuss the 1890s “sidepath movement,” including the dream of building a transcontinental interstate bicycle-specific path network, the forgotten impact of the Victory Bike in WWII, and how the historical context of bike advocacy informs our work today.
Listen to a fascinating presentation by James, named “Advocate of the Year” by the Wisconsin Bike Federation, learn more about BWAM and bike/walk advocacy in the five-valleys area, and enjoy some delicious local brews.
The “Bike Battles” book will be available for purchase and signing.
