The 3rd Annual Missoula Bike Swap was a smashing success! Hundreds of people from across the Five Valleys area came to the Missoula Fairgrounds this weekend to consign and buy bicycles, parts, and gear. Everything from kids bikes and fixies, to fat bikes and a “Monster Cruiser” was featured at the Swap. With lines out the door, the Missoula Bike Swap ensured that every nearly every consigner sold something and every person who wanted a safe, affordable, bike was able to get their hands on one.
The Bike Swap wouldn’t have happened without a dedicated group of volunteers. Thank you to Jack, Lillian, Daniel, Kent, Haydin, Nancy, Jean, Kathleen, Linda, and Aaron for helping to make this year’s Bike Swap such a smooth ride for everyone who came. You are the very best and we appreciate you!
We also want to thank our friends at Free Cycles who not only brought several loads of great rides to sell, but also priced and safety-checked each bike sold. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the awesome work that Free Cycles does, visit their website and then bike down to the “compound” to volunteer some time. They are good people, doing good things for our community.
Our pals at Missoula in Motion registered each bike that was sold, ensuring that each bike can make it back to its owner if it’s misplaced or stolen. MIM also included the Bike Swap as part of their Bike Month Calendar- check out the other events happening this month by clicking here!
There were several local bike shops who partnered with us by providing a 10% tune-up discount on all the bikes sold at the Swap. Thanks to Missoula Bike Source, Open Road, Bike Doctor, Hellgate Cyclery, Missoula Bicycle Works, and the Bicycle Hangar for their committment to ensuring that every person who wants and needs access to a safe bike has it!
Our whole team wants to extend a special thanks to the main sponsor of this year’s event, the Good Food Store. GFS has been a consistent partner for organizations across the Missoula community and continues to be a keystone player in ensuring that our town one of best places in North America for biking and walking.
All of the proceeds from the Swap go toward promoting access to safe biking and walking in the Missoula area. It’s a beautiful, cyclical, thing; every person who buys and and sells at the Swap helps to ensure access to the facilities that make Missoula such a great place for cyclists and pedestrians in the first place. So last, but certainly not least, thank you to everyone who came to the 3rd annual Missoula Bike Swap! We hope you enjoy your new ride. Thanks for your support and happy trails!
